I am an American artist based in London. Throughout my career I have been a potter, teacher, designer and illustrator.
A longtime passion for Persian/Indian miniature painting is integral to my practice. I have assimilated its methods, spirit and formality. My paintings begin as unique graphic works which are then hand finished with inks, gouache, earth pigments, and often burnished with gold.
I also make limited print editions and work to commission.
My art takes its cues from written forms. The tenets of haiku inspire an approach to blending elements of visual language into a concise poetic whole. A veil of handwriting suggests presence of voice; markings pulled from documents offer reference and grounding.
These finely detailed pieces are compact and luminous. I work within the compressed space of the page to create a sense of intimacy whilst speaking out to the ubiquity of something bigger.
